yeah australia is a huge place.

wow its been a long 2 weeks here, and we're still left with 12 more days. damn this exercise could really be shorter. local time now is 0915, some two hours ahead of singapore time.

over here basically we live in the fields, with makeshift tentages our only refuge from the sweltering heat in the day and sub-ten degrees at night. swbta being a desert has abundant sand and we always have our nostrils and throats full of those all the time. very bad at first, but by now most of us have got pretty used to it already.

in another six more hours, 1 guards will be having its final examination, otherwise known as atec stage 2 in soldiers' lingo. and that means 4d3n of harsh living conditions. actually till now i still cannot stand the cold, no matter how many sets of clothes i don myself in.

that simply means one thing: the 3 nights will suck.

but look on the brighter side we shall, and this will be the last outfield for all of us, the defining moment, which will gauge what kind of fighting force we are.

not too long ago we had atec stage 1, like your mid-year examinations, and we fared an excellent result of 97%. and last week when we have battalion mission exercise (bme) our targets hit 100%, a first for us and all the singaporean and australian observers.

we've done our platoon, our unit, and our nation proud. let's pray that this legacy will continue.

i want this legacy to continue.

so pray for me will you? friends know that i take pride in my unit and this is important to me. thank you.

much has happened here and again i've been over pondering about things, guess that has helped in generating my daily dose of headache. :(

during bme, i got my section commanders into a debate of whether there is a living god. and after hours of discussion we agreed that science has proven that there is a creator, which is how earth came about. go goggle the big bang theory.

i've been a backsliding christian for about half a decade now. deep inside, i've always yearned to return to god, and to all his good things. but being an extremely selfish person, i've always decided otherwise.

im confused. god has been good to me, but i want to live my own life; recklessly maybe, with no commandment or whatsoever governing how i can live my life to the fullest.

but this is wrong. oh wells if its just a simple mathematical equation then i wouldn't have myself stucked at this proposition for so many times already would i?

again let's leave this at that. procrastinating rules! boo baa.

i realize i still miss her. its funny how i miss her when i don't see her but have all the excitement die down when we meet. what's happening? in fact now im kinda worried that she might be angry with me for what i've posted in my previous entry.

life should be simple, really. we should all just be happy everyday and enjoy the little blessings around us. another case of easier said than done.

maybe i should return to church. maybe god will have this 'disc cleanup' application in my dna, which can work pretty much like the function in our windows vista.

one more day to go before i have some really close encounters with the kangeroos!

this is gonna be my last overseas exercise, and also the last time i can sit on a plane for free! sq somemore hor, mai siao siao. im trying to be as positive as i can, hopefully this can be a fruitful and memorable exercise, may 1 guards attain redcon 1 for atec, and may super benson lose his tummy in australia!

apart from some impossible aspirations to lose weight, please also pray for me that i will stay safe and healthy, for my nasty foot rot to recover (yes that's blood), for me not to fall asleep while driving (50kmh is sleepy, sleepy is deadly), no accidents of any kind, for the elements to be kinder to us (45.3 deg day, 7 deg night according to wikipedia =.= tabouleh tahan arh!), for no rain cos we'll be staying in the fields for the whole of exercise (rain will seriously suck), and for 1 guards to attain redcon 1 standard for atec (very important).

i know, i know i very loh soh but if you're family/brother/friend/mistress* enough, you'll jolly well pray.

i've finally finished watching prison break! wah it was awesome man, michael scotfield is so unbelievably intelligent; but it gets a little unreal towards the end, though the drama was still very enjoyable with all the suspense and unexpected twists.

cw downloaded this. it was the best body swapping movie i've ever watched. unrealistic (body-swapping? duh) but totally feels good kind of love story. very much like jack neo's just follow law but better by 546545984 times.

哇要打人了！ totally lame movie, so many times during the movie i wanted to throw a rock (or molotov) at the screen! two and a half hours somemore, wah hot arh!

but got one part adam sandler tried to be the third party, that really reminded me of meiyun and the heartache that came with the failed love. 笑容没了距离有了快乐也走了。 very sad.

you. you became the third party. and you had the cheek to be mad at her for not keeping her chastity. seriously?! and after all the damage you've done, you dumped her and made her suicidal. jerk is an understatement for people like you.

this movie was good. the story tells of how summer fell in and out of love with tom in 500 days. it made me realize how love can be cruel sometimes, and i hate it that summer had to betray tom's love.

i hate it that it reminded me of meiyun (yes, again), and how she betrayed our love. im sorry this may seem unfair to you that i keep raking up history but things will never be the same between us again. i no longer love you but i can't help still having a soft spot for you. and how i hate myself for that.

complicated. love can't be simple these days, can it?

enough of the whining. thank you ah tan for bringing me to this cute b&j branch at dempsey hill! i love the vw bus, the swings that double as seats, the vibrant atmosphere, the many eye candies!

dunno is lucky or suay we were seated right in front of the live band, totally no chance of bitching so we just had to keep our mouths shut, slurp our milkshakes and enjoy the music. haha.

the band somehow reminds me of being in church! so happy and relaxing.

wah there have been lots of updates over the last fortnight. i miss my blog, let's try to put ten of my biggest thoughts down to print.

i know this is news from yesteryear but i still cannot believe what's gotten into kanye west at the mtv video music awards. that's so uncool, really. by the way, i kinda liked how taylor filmed her mtv for the winning video.

the driving force of the platoon (that includes me) will be going to kangaroo land one day earlier than everyone for some advanced driving orientation. that sucks but what irks me more is that we'll be coming back one day later than the rest.

supposedly because they don't want to mix us up with 2,000 others, or in their own words "later got cock up". what crap! :(

our equipments and many many other barang barangs are finally cleared for entry to kangaroo land! we toiled ourselves silly the past two weeks for the aussie customs people to clear us for landing. 23 more days to hurrah!

six more months to go!

i thank god that i belong to the new 3g generation army, where soldiers ~~only~~ painstakingly serve 2 years instead of the usual 2.5. so thankful!

i also thank god for...

i was pleasantly surprised to find this on my bed when i booked into camp last saturday. cheered me up duper, seriously.

in it was a 2-page long love letter with a verse from jeremiah 29:11

"for i know the thoughts i think toward you, says the Lord,
thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
i felt seriously touched when i read this, but now as i was typing this it felt like our national pledge. the structure seems similar to me! lol.

ok side-tracked a little. thank you tay tay, i feel loved.

went for my first braces consultation with my would-be orthodontist today. had my mould and xray done and now im broke. wah lau.

moulding hurts a little but there's more to come. i need to extract four healthy teeth come 20 dec and braces would be up 30 dec! and you're looking at my referrer letter. wah im so happy, and a little scared.

thankfully dong was okay with hanging out and i brought him to ice3.

we had a good time catching up over delicious desserts. wah i need to repent, this was such a sinful saturday.

on thursday, csm sat the whole company down in pioneer bunk and gave us a stern lecture. it's also on thursday that thun raced to get ahead of xiang's tonner, and got caught and lectured bla bla bla. also on thursday, i sped to 3 guards compound and got caught by a major. i hope i don't die when i return to camp later.

i've been sleeping little this week, most of the time preferring to talk into the night with various people in the bunk. it's at these intimate hours that we get new insights on one another, and i wish all of us all the best in achieving what we want. jiayou!

i want to go for 5 tonne course. why is it taking so long? i hope there's still enough time for me to go. i so yearn to leave bedok camp.

behind the scenes: army half marathon 2009

there since 10.30pm the day before. fatigue from setting up the barricades, and then there was this bunch of apnn who sang and danced. thank god there was mcdonald's for us to seek refuge.

the first runner met the 11km mark in 37 mins. shen jing bing! the slowest? 3 and a half hours still haven't reach 9km. nabei, you know we wait for you all to pang kang anot?

are you up to it? let's have another animated discussion back in camp. :D

unfortunately it's also at this happy event that i see some of my platoon mates in a totally different light. selfish, greedy and exploitative. im totally disgusted.

recently i’ve been a little dissatisfied with life. i’m confused. i’m uncertain. i’m not sure with many things. right now i just can’t wait to ord. but what’s next? as a singaporean, life’s pretty much mapped up since birth. kindergarten, primary and secondary school, jc/poly/ite, ns for guys, and then it’s work or uni for the more blessed (and/or hardworking) ones. blame it on the system, most of us have not put much thoughts into what we want to do, we don’t have a solid aspiration, we’re not taught to have opinions, we just follow the flow and hope for the best. as such, we need instructions in everything we do; yes we’re capable of doing a good job through perseverance, determination and being organized but at the same time we’re not creative, we're not original, and we don’t know what we want.

sometimes i think i’m being silly for not chao geng-ing through ns. heck so many of my friends breeze through ns and why the hell am i suffering in this camp? it’s so unfair. ns for some of them simply means a desk bound job air-con 8-5 mondays-fridays reading the straits times and flirting on facebook, and for the more hardworking ones, enroll into sim so that they can complete their degrees and ns in two years. sale sale! we all love short cuts don’t we?

get to go home everyday. freedom. you can even make money from doing guard duties and flag raising/lowering ceremony for your friends! or choose to work part time at night, like i did while i was in ngee ann. they paid me so well i could afford my own ride, a citroen c5 3.0! unbelieveable, what i’m missing out.

having said all that, i’m grateful for what ns have put me through, though it can really be a waste of time from a personal and selfish point of view. but i’ll always treasure the times and memories i shared with my platoon, the excruciating experience in brunei and the famed guards’ conversion course, just to name a few. next we’re looking at some long outfields on local soil, before we embark on our last overseas training at wallaby. may it be as memorable for all of us.

as you can see i’ve a love and hate relationship with my vocation. but all this will come to pass some seven months later, and i’ll be grasping my rightful freedom with both my hands. so, what’s next?

i’ll really love to have my own apartment, fully done up, something that i can be proud of, something i’ll love returning to after a long day of work. perhaps a four-roomer at rochor or lavender gardens, and a nice car to go along, a mazda 6 or a honda civic.

come back to reality, benson!

sigh.

so i’ll need to work hard, like all of you. eeyur i hate that! i should have some unfair advantage, i’m benson, you know. no, nothing extra for me. i think most likely i’ll go work at m1 as a sales consultant after ord and then start my marketing degree at a ripe age of 27, probably? so latest by 30, i’ll have a degree to my name! ~~aiyo, quite old leh.~~ and in the meantime, hopefully i’ll net a pretty and cute girl as my life companion, someone as wonderfully and beautifully created as me. hahaha.

i still cannot get over the fact that i could have graduated with a marketing degree when i receive my pink ic. damn.

decided to stay at home to keep my mum company when it was too late to go to serene's ndp potluck party. i have to reaffirm that the parade was really the best i've seen, very interesting and engaging! kudos to the ndp exco, the chairman can expect to be promoted soon i think. haha.

after which was singapore idol. since im at home i figured i could do with a couple of laughs. oh yes benson is mean. mwaha.

the first joker came in the form of amanda low, 17 years fat and looking like she's gonna explode with her avril lavigne inspired costume. she sang happy ending, happily ending her horrendous screeching by asking how was it and showing the finger when ken showed her the exit. LOL.

though there were many who could sing and equally tons who made a fool out of themselves, i applaud all who tried and good luck to those who got into the second round. and yes, go rachel, go! :D

wah 28k for nice teeth is really not funny lo. my teeth originally is ok already what, but i vain i want to make it perfect and the dentist tell me i need a jaw surgery. that will cost me 20k and put me in hospital for four days and on medical leave for 14 days. the mc part sounds cool but the hefty price tag scares the daylight out of me man!

sadddd. i've been looking forward to having my braces done but if it's gonna be at this cost i doubt i'll carry on. hmmm guess i'll need to do some homework and get a second opinion soon.

finally met up with dine and char since a long long time ago! picked pitstop for lunch and catch up and play but alas, we ate there and talked for three hours without touching a single game. haha. thankfully the food there wasn't too bad and the place was quiet enough for some decent conversations.

would love to meet up again soon although these girls love to tease me to no end about our 'history'. ahem. guess they love to see a ketchup faced benson. ehk ehk! boooooo baaa! (inside joke, outsiders need not kaypo and try to understand. mwaha.)

after that ben lai all four of us plus kl were supposed to go malaysia truly asia for crabs and other good foods but char had to pangseh us for stefanie's concert and dine was shy so only the three of us went ahead.

boring. im looking forward to our planned self drive trip up north in september! hoho.

today after my ~~waste of time~~ braces consultation i met up with tay tay and yilong to explore ion orchard!

wah so exciting!

i so adore the design of the building man! especially love the underpass entrance which i've nicknamed bird nest. somehow it just reminds me of the china's olympic stadium haha.

actually got alot of other nice things inside but my aged camera did a lousy job so i shall not shame myself here. go take a look inside when you've the time. yes it's pretty massive but it's nice! it's nice it's nice it's nice!

tay tay confirmed that there're really 5 cubicles inside thus the five icons but actually they should go one step further ma, only light up available cubicles so customers know at one glance. you know, like carpark like that. smart right!

ion orchard is officially my favourite mall of the moment. apart from some unpleasant deep air toilet smell in their basement levels, everything is perfect. love the variety, the design and love-hate the crowds. haha.

ah tan came to join us after golf and we went to catch murderer!

it's really quite a disturbing movie but with an excellent storyline nevertheless. aaron's acting was top notch and the horrifying scenes kept me superglued to my seat with hands half covering my eyes and my nice innocent mind. boy it was good but ladies should avoid this show as it really f your brain. till now im still a little traumatized by what i've seen. haha.

overall it was a good day and i enjoyed myself. yay! but i'll be heading to tan tock seng tomorrow if my second finger doesn't stop hurting. i had a minor accident with the mortar on monday and till now the swollen finger still cannot bend. everyone suspects a fracture case and im beginning to think so too. sian. recently im like quite prone to accidents and pains. booooo.

i finally managed to find time to watch transformers 2 on the big screen! i've been pretty busy these few weeks im also unsure what my life is all about. june sped by and now we're already in mid-july, somehow it all just feels too fast, which is good also cos im officially less than 8 months to ord! yeah!

the air force and navy also came in to pursue alleged terrorists coming in from the seas (think mumbai attacks, except in this case they come from singapore river).

oh i forgot to mention that we also met four of our other friends while queuing up for the goodie bags. and then after we got seated together we saw one more friend behind us and two more friends in other sectors! wah it's so easy to bump into people at the parade!

personally i really enjoyed this year's ndp for its novel way of retelling the singapore story. the whole show was truly fantastic.

im sorry if i appear boastful in the next few paragraphs, im just a little overjoyed and beaming with pride with our achievements and heritage. i love my platoon and my unit! :D

the mortar platoon of the first battalion singapore guards achieved an outstanding grade of 97% (!!!!!), REDCON 1 standard in the atec stage 1 examination this week; much like your continual assessment in school before the big one at the end of the year, which for us will be done in australia come october. (boo.)

but being awarded redcon 1 is not enough for us. the battalion also received a plaque for the best unit competition from the chief of army, and this award don't come easy for we are only a first year battalion competing with other second year soldiers for the coveted medal.

like our big boss will say, the moral of the story is "don't mess with 1 guards".

but this good news also come with some bad news which im not at liberty to share with you here. let's just hope that the h1n1 flu will be behind us soon, even our courtesy meow is taking precautions!

today we meet as a continuation of sean's birthday celebration. though sean is born here, he spent most of his life in new zealand so his knowledge of singapore is confined to orchard road, bugis, and bedok camp. lol.

with that in mind, we decided to go ubin! woo hoo!

recently im in alot of unnecessary pain. i fell and nearly bled to death last week and this week, i checked myself into the medical centre for an iv drip. the senior medic specially gave me an extra large needle for a quicker relief. oh thank you so much.

that's right, a satay stick into my veins. woo hoo!

and today i sought more (future) pain by attending the dental studio's braces forum.

close friends know that im a sucker for people with nice teeth. in fact let me burst my own bubble here, i dig ladies with braces. no, nothing naughty here, im just special i guess. mwaha.

looking forward to a painful consultation with the orthodontist come 25 july! but before that, let's find out your opinion on which braces suit me better...

this week really alot of dai ji. incurred the wrath of csm and got fished left right centre upside down. very unhappy, spoke to pc about relinquishing my appointment as the drivers ic and requested for less driving duties. turns out ps is thinking of sending me to 5-tonne drivers' course. cheered up a little by that prospect but it's still not confirmed. hopefully they will be wise to send the best driver (ahem, me) for this humongous task. :DD

signed my first extra for reporting back to camp 10 mins late. was actually due to be done today but thankfully kumar agreed to replace me. thank you, prem. and thank you too, sean tan sean tay tengkiat kenneth and sengyong for helping me with the 100 lines. (:

so with a lousy week over and no guard duty, the belated birthday picnic with peifen was finally fulfilled.

thank you jie for lending me your car, thank you kumar for standing in for me and all the upstair kaypos for not ruining my plan. oh no this would better not be seen by any of them hahaha.

after the information-overload presentation on everything about teeth (even teaches us the correct technique of brushing teeth lol) at the dental studio, we withdraw to coffee bean for my favourite black forest ice blended.

its a huge relief just sitting down there bitching about anything and watching the world go by. i realized singaporeans really lead a fast-paced and stressful life. walk cannot stroll, drive cannot slow, wah super benson can be a poet! hahaha.

after a hundred and fifty years we decided to give up our seats for orchard central. kaypo time!

next we were stunned in our steps with this ingenious rock climbing facility within the shopping complex. other than that we were both not impressed with this newest shopping joint, they need to work on organizing space and tenants properly. except for its first floor, the rest of the building was just wrong.

okay i should stop bitching. recently im hooked on this drama series.

war is really terrifying. please the north koreans you please listen to instructions, you're not welcome on our docks. make yourself scarce or the guardsmen will help you with that. we're on standby damnit, such excellent timing.

oh no it's been a painful and sick week for super benson! i fell hard while i was running around the camp compound and wounded (in order of severity) both my knees, my left shoulder, and MY FACEEEEE! AHHHHH! i punched myself while i was trying to protect my face from the ground.

ironic.

but thankfully i had a near miss with the concertina wire; had i not swerved left while falling i think i can just retire my body into the dustbin with all that nasty wounds. zzz. still, it was bad. after i was treated by the doctor, my platoon mates commented that i looked like i just came back from war.

and now i've even more victory scars to show off to my future generations. hurray.

it's one busy week! yucky outfield and a mad rush to prepare and rehearse for our very own dance, skit and song item for bedok idol. those soldiers slacking their 2 years away in the air-conditioned rooms really have plenty of time to even come up with this. but thankfully, we're involved and again we made a name for ourselves, the 120mm mortar platoon.

now we're really famous in the guards' formation. haw haw haw.

the main song and one of the dance items. imagine the roars and laughters! it was one great night and the credit really belongs to sengyong, who has such a flair for this kind of dramatic things. lol.

and the best thing of all? our oc was so pleased with our performance we get 3 days' off! woooooot!

its cw's 23rd and we wanted to do something that he'll enjoy. the verdict: plan a surprise bbq. we invited only our closest friends and had a good time catching up the night away.

thank god for the perfect weather, and my superb phototaking skills. blah.

as you can see, being the organizer is really no fun.

i so want to go to this place the soonest i can! this place is known as autostadt, which means car city in german. the brain child of volkswagen group (my favourite beetle car!), it has seven pavilions dedicated to each and every brand under its charge.

for the uninitiated, it is simply a very exciting prospect. imagine getting to know (and see) everything you ever wanted to kaypo about these ultra desirable marques, such as audi (wooo), bentley (hmmm), lamborghini (wah!), and also bugatti (think 1,001 crazy horses under its hood).

sleek or what? i figured i'll need a business phone since im gonna ord soon, ~~in another 10 months.~~ i'll be another useful entity to the society, so i need something to look that part too. an e71 will do just right. looks like im back to nokia after three and a half decades with sony ericsson. aww.

it's good to be back! finally sorted out all the photos for the trip. phew! are you ready for a hell of a post? warning: it's gonna be really, really lengthy. :D

tall tall structures everywhere. here no more cemeteries in your face, no more cows by the road side; what's in fashion here is golf range, and they have it really randomly located - in the middle of a slum, right beside the highway, opposite a shopping district. wah stunning.

yeah i love the city life! it's so good to be stucked in a traffic jam! hahaha.

satisfactory rooms but at an excellent location. near ximending and 新光三月, taipei main metro station within walking distance, and lots of amenities in the vicinity, convenience stores, 24-hour fast food chains.

there are seriously ALOT of silly games in this place. lol. initially when we got there, the place was half filled and, very quiet; it could double as a studying area! so we decided to play games that we've not tried before and make alot of noise in the process. soon the people were infected by our shouts and laughters and the place became more like that game haven it's meant to be. hahaha.

just came back from a cosy dinner with ol. all is well except that i've been eating ramen for the past three days, twice at ajisen. wanted to explore tampines 1 but it will only be open the day i leave sg. zzz. with an impending empty stomach and increasingly impatient girl by my side, i walked helplessly into ajisen. eeyur, no more ramen for super benson!

five more days to taiwan!

during our briefing prior to the trip, s2 oc gave my blog a commendable mention while touching on security issues. everyone in the platoon turned and stared cheekily at me, giving everyone else in the battalion a perfect idea of who the clever author was. thank you. haha.

all along i know my blog is popular (lol), but i didn't know that someone is serving their ns just by monitoring my blog, eagle eyeing any security breaches and ready to put me into detention barracks. lucky bastards. no wonder i've weird searches on google to locate my blog la! zzz.

today's our battalion cohesion day, and it promises to be a splash!

held at jurong west sports and recreation centre bla bla bla wah lau such a long name, it was my first time taking train on the extended blue line and first time alighting at pioneer station. and my first time having my backside nearly glued into the seat. wah 18 stops from lavender can!

told you it's gonna be a splash. wheee!

today is errands day! fixed new army specs, made library card for jie, went tan tock seng for my yucky rot, and finally met up with the gang and ate at bbq chicken. nice! but quite expensive for fast food. heng jamie got the 2-for-1 coupon. after that cw and i bought our first havaianas! there was a good 2-for-1 promo at num too. yay.

i got one week's mc from tan tock seng for my foot rot. apparently, the honorable doc saw enough damage to call for such extreme (and shiok) rest. i realized i've really been overspending, by a thousand miles or two. goodness. now that bear's back in melbourne, and we're done with meiyun's birthday celebration, i really ought to confine myself at home, and maybe i should buy a yale lock and chain myself up.

bearie's last weekend here! of course must eat good food la! originally planned to bring her to marutama ra-men but the soup base ended just when it's our queue! such luck. so we went about the mall frantically and finally settled on ma maison.

close friends know i squeal on food with shells (every shells except crabs and prawns) but i quickly learnt that escargots are friendly to my tastebuds too! they ain't particularly tasty but at least they don't emit a foul smell, like oysters. la-la also. sea-hum. my hum my hum my hum. eeyur.

food was great but that fat and short waitress of ma maison the central better go back for some service re-training.

sundays are originally a rest day for super benson. because it's typically a book in day, and super benson needs to stay at home to have his emotions in check. but for bearie, we can do an exception. and i very nearly booked in late. lol.

we had picnic at marina barrage! good food, check. music, check. booze, check. great companions, check. weather, huge thunderstorm. wah lau, we only had time to take this photo before we felt drizzles and scrambled to pack up. in the end we went to a remote corner at level 2 instead. yucks.

the rain really dampens everyone's spirits but thankfully, bear suggested desserts at haato and that perked us up instantly. ahhhh,

haato now has a greater variety of food with their new menu! too full for mains, we tried their new mudpie. cannot make it. but their gelato waffles more than make up for it! yummy!

my company's 2ntm was changed to 4ntm last week and so we were allowed to book out last friday! and the best thing was that they wanted to see how fast we can respond to activation so they told us to stand by our mobiles on monday and wait. but we all know the call will come at about 8am cos they where got so nice to let us stay out and book in late on monday? bo ko leng! so there was no surprise over there.

aiyo so lame, so damn original of saf. hahaha.

and so last friday, a company of elite guardsmen warriors (hahahahaha i know im so proud. bear with me yo) were let loose along upper east coast road at about 7pm. i rushed home and took a quick shower and headed north across the causeway. nearly got robbed sia! but heng maybe they recognize me as guardsman so they didn't dare.

LOL.

okok enough of self praise, i had a shag day and needed to show off abit. mwaha. so initially we wanted to club in malaysia but my dear hairstylist put all of us aeroplane! sibei sian, so we just drove around near our hotel to explore. pictures!

though we had a sumptuous seafood dinner before we started our mini excursion, we couldn't help but to order food from this steamboat on wheels kiosk! quite interesting hor? singaporeans very mountain tortoises one leh.

yeah it's a new day! we ventured out to this rather big mall for lunch.

decided on vivo cafe for their cheap fare, and also because my companions have not tried them before. used to be really yummy but this visit was disappointing. zzz.

it's not suitable for the mortar platoon to do our thing in brunei, and i really have no idea why they still send us there anyway. lol. as such, our appointment for exercise buaya is to play enemy for the rifle companies, a duty we all enjoyed tremendously; though it also means doing nothing most of the time and camping out longer than any other platoons, cos only one company attack us per day.

still, it's a much smaller price to pay as compared to what those riflemen went through. and im thankful for that, but it also means i did not lose as much weight as i desired to. hahaha.

oh wells.

and it's during one of these slack times that i had an intimate connection with god. i was talking to one of my platoon mates, reminiscing about the tough times we shared over at exercise nomad and about our other struggles when he told me about the footsteps story, which i shall share with you later. suddenly tears just welled up in my eyes. i felt ashamed and extremely guilty of myself for turning my back towards god. i know fully that he's been good to me, and although i tend to complain at times, deep inside im a happy man, and i like to believe that it's all because of him.

i want to be close to god again. but im also selfish in that i don't want to 'waste' my precious bookout times. it's like i've to set aside time to go to church, have fellowship, rest earlier so i can be attentive to the sermon the next day. i feel it's too much sacrifice. yet, i yearn to be closer to him again. what a weird proposition this is.

with bear back in our midst, a gathering was almost confirmed, even if it means meeting up on v-day, and so it happened. wah like no link leh. aiyah no hair cannot think logically already lahhhhh.

wahh it's been so long since i last sang at party world ktv! and i like their menu for being creative and appetizing, and i can see that faint effort in wanting to create that special menu. very good, kbox has just lost a long time customer. hohoho.

photos of me are fugly but the singing was thoroughly enjoyable. nothing beats hanging out with really close friends. there's no need to be pretentious, and the heart lifting feeling really feels good. as in literally speaking. too bad bear's gonna return to australia early march and im gonna be confined this week for 2ntm, some dumb army activation thing so we need to be in camp for the next 14 days straight. arrrgh.

sometimes i hate to be in guards man. all of you would better respect the men with khaki berets ok!

stayed over at bear's house and woke up to a feast prepared by her mum. talked abit with her parents and some of her relatives came visiting. played mahjong and i won some money! hohoho.

finally, we left her house in the evening for dinner and some shopping at bugis.

some people say my blog is always about food. i say you always see food cos i need lots of goodies to stay positive being locked up 5.5 days a week. so now you know.

i so so so so so adore v8 cafe for being so cheap and good! it's got cheap ambience, cheap food, and an overall cheap bill. what more can you ask for? hohoho.

i bought something from topman today. wahh there are sales everywhere man! even what 7% gst rebate if you shop on weekends from now till 1 march. it looked like an initiative from our tourism board, so uniquely singapore! guess that also speaks volume about falling sales and the so-bad recession that we are all in.

oh no.

OH NO. super benson groans for this blog will be quiet for the next fortnight. damn army. im looking forward to spending more time with bear when i book out! we've alot of things to do! arrrgh i feel like going to get mc. lol.

footprints

one night a man had a dream. he dreamed he was walking along the beach with the lord. across the sky flashed scenes from his life. for each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him, and the other to the lord.

ladies and gentlemen, super benson's back from bruneiiiiiii!

yay! woot! swee la! back from that monster place. hohoho.

it has been a real eye opening experience over at the heart of borneo, with their rainforests living so up to their name, we struggled to fall asleep every night amidst the cold, unforgiving rains. it was a vicious cycle- fishingly hot and humid in the day, resulting in heavy downpours as nighttime approaches. it was stunning. the jungle got so dark we couldn't see our hands even if we brought it close to our faces, and then the thunderstorms began, and i always ponder to myself where did the heavens store their never ending supplies of rain; such intense stamina, that lasts from dusk to dawn.

wahh i think i sounded quite poetic eh?

hahaha.

anyway we always had a bad start to a new day, cos it's just so cold and wet in the morning any slightest motion can invite exchange of air direction that will bring about cool air to our bodies. or that's what i think la. hmmm anyway if you don't understand what im saying, keep reading. i would like to think that im intellectual and it's your fault for not understanding my language.

hohoho.

one of the highlights of exercise lancer is exercise nomad, a 3d2n navigation exercise. each section consists of one officer who takes the lead, two sergeants who pace, and a varying number of troopers who carry two signal sets with 200% of battery supplies, and 48 hours of ration and four litres of water each among other standard items. wahhh i think liao my shoulder also feel cramp sia. lol.

and it's the first time i've drunk from the streams. it's disgusting initially but when the going gets tough, those stream water was like coca cola to us.

brunei's jungles are famed for being dense, deep and hilly. i never knew climbing and descending hills could be so shag and sweat-inducing. and i have the holy one above to thank for staying alive right now.

there were many instances whereby we could have lost our lives, and at least two of them were close shaves for me.

case in point:
it was only the first day of navex and the floor was slippery and the soil, soft. we were negotiating several tight bends on a ridge line with only room for one person at any one time when i slipped and totally lost my footing.

but i didn't fall into the deep trenches below.

somehow in that split second, something miraculous happened and with one foot in the air, my other foot remained rooted to the soil.

wow! this really shouldn't be happening. so stunning.

case in point 2:
the other instance was when we were scaling up a null and a deadfall just fell inches behind me. thank goodness our teammate behind was quite a distance away from me or either one of us was bound to get hurt.

and experiences with deadfalls were aplenty! so im really so grateful that all of us completed the mission unscathed.

the second largest mosque in brunei. the dome is made wholly of pure 24k gold ok! wah lau stunning.

brunei has got over a hundred mosques and being a multi religious society, they don't work on fridays and sundays. four days' work week! sibei stunning.

their super dry, boring, and stuffy national museum. interestingly, they don't allow mobile phones, cameras and cigarettes in all their museums. hmmm.

i've had a really arid week. and i think it's all because of cny. though im grateful for the break, everyone's so busy and i find myself occupied over the same things everytime - a sure sign that super benson's superbly bored. duh.

and so i bury myself into the reel world. tvb has been churning really good drama serials and i find it hard to keep up with the downloading pace! opps.

and typical to this chinese type of festive season, we find ourselves glued to the mega screens laughing over no-link movies that obviously tries their best to locate our funny bone.

oh i've wasted my youth and my short vacation! i should have just boarded a train and head north, or even a vessel trip to batam would be more interesting im sure. arrrgh im so dissatisfied!

originally planned to crash loycus's house but got discouraged by the vast distance between us. lavender and jurong west you say far anot? so in the end it only took a tiny weeny distraction to thwart me from my plans.

all it takes was just one call, and im at charleston's house enjoying the steamboat dinner with the rest of his family. quite a weird situation to be in but at least i got ferried from my place to charleston's.

charleston did his research and recommended this eatery. upon arrival we found the place unsuitable for being 'lack of ambience', so as to speak. not wanting to disappoint charleston for his efforts, we decided to take a quick bite before leaving for another spot.

my first time at bottle tree park! food is great but the place is not as nice as i thought leh. maybe i should come in the day next time.

i feel the increasing liberalism in this household. no more effort put in to dishing up a decent meal for reunion dinner. no need for everyone to be present also. not enough people? just grab a friend to make up the numbers!

no im not complaining. im just amused by this gradual change. we do have our meals together at least once every month so this reunion dinner thing doesn't affect me much. the guy in picture is my mum's close friend by the way.

aloha! SO glad to be back, like all the time. hahaha.

anyway army training has shifted its focus from physical to skills' based and that sucks, cos combat fitness and competence's trainings are a lot more painful when compared to just keeping fit physically. and as one of the six 'privileged' platoon drivers, i get extra driving orientations when others are resting in bunk. how nice.

singapore 1st battalion singapore guards has just received its combat skills badge (csb) and affirmed its alert red status for being operationally ready during a parade on friday. this means that our unit may and will be deployed should there be any threats to the sovereign of our nation (i.e mas selamat incident, hotel new world collapse, and the likes).

tolong, tolong don't have this kind of monkey business for the next 14 months till i ord please. that time when mas selamat escaped, guardsmen scoured the jungles for him and got a off-less three months as a reward. that's twelve pairs of weekends burnt. oh thank you.

the past week was generally okay, mainly focusing on completing the tasks required for our csb. on monday we had 10km endurance run which we were supposed to complete in less than 65 minutes, i came in sixth in about 48 minutes. yayy. and then there's the killing overnight 32km route march with river crossing at tekong, our platoon didn't meet the timing of six hours which was plain crazy but still we managed to attain the csb, which was nice.

next we are looking at underslung training in the coming week, where we shall hook our mortar equipments, ammo, and tonners (!!!) onto a helicopter for swift deployment into foreign ground. that means outfield, more sun less rest and no shelter. wooot!

and then there's the vertical marathon where we are to climb the stairs up 22 storeys to the top of cmpb building twice with fbo. wahh garang soldiers. and next we are looking at our first overseas exercise lancer in brunei from 31 jan to 14 feb. woo hoo!

in fact we have already got wind of most of the shit coming our way but it's just too depressing for me to recall them in one single entry so let's keep it at that.

oh i hate to be a soldier. sigh.

we had a sendoff gathering for jak who has since left for canada for advanced pilot training.

dinner was at chomp chomp for all the local food that he will be missing when in that far far away place.

though immensely full, i insist on desserts to satisfy that cranky sweet tooth in me. wahh very unique and yummy offerings they have, and their waitresses are mostly eye candies too. both my eyes and tongues were really satisfied, with my poor stomach struggling to ingest that huge quantity of food suddenly. what a crazy owner i've got, it must have thought. hmmm.

oh no im dead. :(

after a lengthy discussion over where to head next, we decided on the latest lan gaming craze- left4dead. gamers group themselves into four and try to stay alive while in a vampire infested place. the sound effects were great at scaring the wits out of most of us and we had fun completing the missions while shouting and swearing at the same time. hahaha.

sister cooked for me and we had a cosy gathering at her place. oh no benson is olddddd! :(!

midnight red cliff 2 at cine next. it's nice to see movies fulfilling your already high expectations, and i enjoyed every part of its 160 minutes plus entertainment.

next we had supper at mohammad sultan bak kut teh. fat fat! and then it's to intrude ol's privacy at fairmont hotel again! (:

glad to be back! woo hoo!

it's been a little crazy weekend since thursday evening. had three rounds of mahjong, won some spare cash and went back to camp on friday morning zombie eyed. booked out at noon and was told to report back at 11pm for 24-hour guard duty on saturday.

LIKE WTF?!

sigh. how can mindef expect its national servicemen to serve the nation wholeheartedly with such incorrigible practices- calling dedicated soldiers down for duty at the very last minute? eh i never tio extras or anything of that sort okay. this is so unfair, so maddening!

and as usual we only booked out at 9.30am today even though our duty ends before eight. and i've been awake ever since.

im so sleep deprived! :(

four days into year 2009 and it's not been a good start. at least not for four of my friends.

ht kissed alicia's camry into jak's wish and the latter is seeking compensation. a decade's worth of friendship soured.
jying's dad passed on following a 16-day struggle in the hospital. wake ended today was a sombre affair.

i haven't ord yet.
the road ahead is still dark and uncertain.

year 2009. a year of dark clouds and heavy thunderstorms. heavy plus thunderstorms, you can expect how gloomy it can be eh. ok poor joke but i really hope to be a better man with the start of an exciting new year. i wish for people around me to be happy everyday and please take care, and stop taking things for granted.

i had a good time catching up with ben, kim and diyana over lunch at bishan after the wake. though we've grown somewhat distant, i wish all of you well. and jying too, i know it's easier said than done but please be brave and stay strong. i hope you can find solace somehow. keep up the faith dear girl.

a christmas party at suet fong's house has been an annual tradition since my poly days and since many key characters were not free this christmas, ultra flexible cal made the party a post-christmas celebration instead. very smart.

HOHOHO! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

lalala, this is my first christmas since enlistment! and i've had so much fun, mainly because im clearing my leaves for the year! i'll be off till the second of january. ohhhhh i love year ends! :D

wahhh there are many things to re-cap this last two weeks but let's just stick to the more interesting ones!

okok so this christmas my company is in charge of the celebration for the whole battalion, and what a show it was! everyone contributed in one way or another, like our admin sergeant who invited his church band to perform the first segment; which was great cos they really know their music, but also because there were pretty ladies in the group. hahaha.

and then there's benson and his mortar platoon. we were tasked with a skit and genius sengyong came up with a hilarious plot about the origins of christmas. guess my role?

i played mary! albeit a more vulgar and seductive version. god everyone was laughing real hard during the show! too bad there's no way i can replay the scene so let me just recall and laugh alone here. mwaha.

and during this busy time i still managed to catch this romantic comedy on sean's ipod touch. wahh very nice show which puts me back on perspective in terms of love and life. this show teaches me to just be myself cos ultimately what matters in my life is me being happy, not so much about pleasing others, which i find myself increasingly inclined to do. what a pain. yes, i shall relearn to just be myself. im charming in the first place what!

it was kai's 22nd on the 19th and i thought it was a good time to meet him up and really catch up.

dinner was not spectacular but the updates were. and although we are definately not as in sync as before, im certain that i can count on him during both good times and bad.

both of us wanted to catch ip man initially but got put off by the available timings which were all past midnight. so we settled for yes man with not much of an expectation and wow, it's a laugh heartily kind of show. eh what the hell am i talking about but yeah you get the drift. hahaha.

our family celebrated christmas in advance to accommodate everyone's busy schedule, but the choice of food is kind of too chinese right? i almost regret when i became aware of sister's intention to have our christmas dinner at this place after she asked me for nice places to eat 猪脚. aiyo.

the food was great. of course la, i recommended this place what. but one piece of great news further lighten everyone's mood- sister's pregnant again! expected date of delivery: 30th june - 5th july 2009 WOO HOO!

this year's christmas is spent at jeannie's friend, nicole's apartment. the thing is, i know nobody else there but i still went ahead because i wanted to be there to celebrate jeannie's birthday which incidentally, falls on christmas day.

i made new friends. got drunk. had fun. and im so glad i went.

huge place, isn't it? and nicole's mum kept teasing me and jeannie to no end. we are really not an item la, aiyo! lol.

phew, what a party! i knocked out at about 4 o'clock due to alcohol intoxification while the remaining contend with playing poker and the last i checked, there were still plenty of booze to go around. this is indeed a crazy christmas. but i like. hahaha.

christmas day itself was tamer but i got to meet charlotte! wow it's been more than a year since we last met and we really missed each other, don't we? :D

we arrived at clarke quay at my suggestion though initially i wanted to check into any bars, i decided on tcc and the gang seconded my choice, with many pulling a long face. wahhh my friends dote on me lots! hahaha.

tcc clarke quay is such a delightful place to chill! next we went to geylang for supper and to check out the prostitutes there. yes, with charlotte in tow! hahaha. and then it's lights out for the day.

introducing the coveted khaki beret and guards' tab. only a select few can don them, not before going through the absolutely stunning and horrible guards' assault course (gac).

tues, 7pm: 16km tactical route march.
a 12-hour effort from lim chu kang to saf training institute at tuas. yes, we went tortoise slow but that's killing because of the load we carry. because it's tactical, we marched individually, and because it's tactical, there is no water point so we carry 4l of water with us. extra weight!

wed, 8am: back at camp
with the promise of returning to bunk and rest for the day. alas. we were brought to another housing point, and told the gac begins. wtf? where's our rest?

the in-betweens: wed to fri, 6pm
first they collected our watches and mobiles so we will have no clue at all when the punishing regime will end. then the respective platoon commanders took turns to play us. it was really tough physically but more of the mental because you thought you can't take any more of this shit but somehow, you just keep taking it as they come along.

next they got us a deflatable boat and put five jerry cans inside. each jerry can weighs 20kg. each platoon is to carry the boat and take turns to climb up the stairs to the top floor at all four companies, all this time with full battle order and ensuring that at no time shall the boat be touching the floor. insane.

i cannot recall what we do next. there were just too many physical activities and most of the time, i just let my subconscious mind take over. i was just too tired. the commanders were keen to break us down, they admitted later. but thankfully, all seventeen of us at mortar platoon kept up the faith and no one falls out! yes! very, very happy. :D

in fact i feel like crying now. the pride and thankfulness are overwhelming me. hahaha.

two of the highlights of gac are reverse soc and beach pt. many have heard horror stories about the two and i can vet the claims. first, all of us are divided into details of seven each, including a signaler who carries the signal set with an extra weight of 7kg. the reverse soc game goes like this: we set out from camp for a 4km route march to carpark 6b at east coast park where there will be a commander marking our attendance; then we marched 4km back to camp to finish one of the three objective each time.

namely, endurance pt, technical handling test and lastly, reverse soc. we repeat the 8km march each time to go on to the next objective. the last objective was insane. we carry a stretcher with two jerry cans for 8km, then we do reverse soc with it, at all times ensuring that the stretcher do not touch the ground or the obstacles. our team took 7 hours and 14 minutes to complete the task.

then there is the beach pt. again, it was just another tekan session but this time more telok, because we were all wet and sand is all over our bodies. everyone is fatigued and injuries were aplenty, abrasions, blisters, heat rashes, bla bla bla. we were made to leopard crawl (imagine crawling with sand on your joints. super pain!), run here run there, push up, jumping jack, alternate leg thrust, helicopter, crunches, lunges, flip flopping from our bellies to our backs. aiyah crazy one lah. at this time the give up factor is great because we were all super fatigued, and the commanders know this is the last round before the parade, so it's either breaking us now or never. fucking crazy.

then when they finally asked us to pack up in an insanely short time and we never meet the timing, they made us leopard crawl and run in the mud with fbo, rotating each motion only after the siren sounds. that was it, the end of gac, and the end to photo taking and stares of the bemused audience at the park.

throughout the ordeal, we lived like refugees, afraid of turn outs and change parade at all times, wary of any slightest sound or mistakes that can err the wrath of our commanders. all the time while surviving on very little rest, oh we learnt the dog language perfectly. woof woof.

things were really bad. it was the worst time of my life. many a times, i wanted to give up. many a times, i wanted to disobey my superior, storm up to him and give him a good punch. im glad i manage to keep these emotions at bay. gac was really tough, and no words can describe how glad we were at the pass out parade.

i was so glad when i see my mum amongst the crowd. i thought she will not be informed! the gac is alot about mental strength, we don't know what time it is, when is the parade, whether our parents are informed. there were alot of uncertainties. it was a truly surreal experience.

oh you can count on us to protect the country. MWAHA. alright the book in time is 1930 later due to a live firing tomorrow. there goes my treat to andy lau's concert! in army, anything goes man. im just glad gac is over. hahaha.

i realized lately my posts have all been very wordy. bear with me while im transiting through a rather bo liao phrase of my life. this coup, hopefully, shall subside come 12 march 2010.

that's my ord date la, ah dey. aiyo i also cannot stand myself leading such a monotonous life, but what to do? must repay my debts to be a singaporean mah. hoho.

anyhow one piece of great news! charles has just passed his tp and also aced his father's orientation drive, and now our ah sia kia drives a nissan cefiro 2.3 with a silky smooth v6 engine while he's out. mai siao siao. eh sounds like a nissan advertisement sia. lol.

oh yeah welcome to the drivers' club brother! :D

i was feeling super low out at ps last saturday when the gang bought tickets for this movie. super no expectations, super sian, in fact i wanted to just leave and go home; but cannot make others unhappy just because you're not feeling good what, not nice. wahh heng got watch this movie, it made me laugh and cheered me up duper. hahaha.

this movie's okay, just don't go into the theatre with a high expectation. i wanna watch bolt!

hahaha both the dog and that hamster are just so adorable! ahhhhhhh! *pinch their cheeks.

and i manage to play two rounds of mahjong this week! but maybe because too long no play le, now i play not much feel leh, like the liking for it diminished alr. hmmm.

hmmm i've been feeling better this week. i've decided, 不要想太多，不要管别人的想法，看法；最重要是自己开心，要勇敢地去追求自己的梦想！如果已经尽全力而又没有结果，至少有试过。

okok really got to go liao. back at guards camp cannot late ah bo can join confinement party liao. aiyo. i'll be going for guards assault course this week. for starters, its a super xiong course for us to earn our guards' tab and khaki beret, after which we can super hao lian about. so as expected, this is gonna be a tough ride and hopefully, no guardsman will be hurt in the process. so i've some prayer requests!

as i've just rejoined trainings, my body has yet to be tuned to the vigorous and physically demanding nature of this course so pray that i'll suffer from minimal muscle aches and body pains.
pray for willpower so that i can endure the exercise and emerge unscathed, just now physically, so this one is for mental strength.
a positive mindset so things will be less painful for super benson!
and the usuals la, no rain, no shit, not too much sun also, basically all the elements to be kinder to us during the course la.

hopefully all will be well and im looking forward to a great parade on friday! details to be advised when i have it, important people please keep your mobiles by your sides! :D

really glad to be back! :D

after days of procrastination, i finally plucked up enough courage to return to guards on thursday. hahaha. (eh i realized nowadays i hahaha alot instead of lol and mwaha! wahhh. okay.) everyone was so excited to see me, they made me do double training to make up for lost ones! aiyo, 害到我现在整身痛！

王八蛋。

sigh. i really have lots of physical work to catch up with! and next week would be our guards assault course. swee la, get ready to sweat and curse like dog. grrr.

and i can't wait to get my guards' tab and khaki beret! can't wait for the parade, i want all my friends to come see me don my smartest four and receive the coveted prize! my girlfriends can wahhh and oooh over me while i ignore them. MWAHA.

the parade will be held coming friday but till now we still have no concrete news of how it's gonna be like. army's really fish up lah, so inefficient. eeyur.

the recent mumbai terror attack has left 188 dead and amongst them, the first singaporean victim. according to the papers, 28 year old lawyer lo hwei yen is a real charming and vivacious lady, the life of any party. after the disturbing facts were established, the new paper's special reports covering her husband made me teared. what a great love story this is, but with a tragic end.

i've finally finished watching 家好月圆! :D

this is the continuation to the 2006 popular drama 溏心风暴。 though not as nice as the original in my humble opinion, this drama will still manage to raise your blood pressure and at times, feed sugar to your brain! i especially loved how they conclude the drama - 有情人忠臣眷属。 ahhh, sweeetttt!

the 5 year old mazda 3 finally gets a major facelift!

wah piang eh so freaking cool! so curvy, so sexy, i especially love the status bar! wahhh.

and now it looks like a baby mazda 6! while still retaining the c-pillar of the old mazda 3. hmmm. a little awkward styling, but still nicer than the mazda 6 in my opinion.

i prefer the hatchback version for a more sexy, complete look but actually, just buy me any mazdas and i'll drive it gladly.

i played a game with myself yesterday, and lost. but i was clueless as to what fate has in store for me later in the night. oh im a shattered man.

i've had a really turbulent week so i was quite happy when i passed my class 4 tp test in one attempt last thursday. six points. i could have failed my tp as that would result in me returning to guards on an even later date but i wanted to honour my driving instructor, mr. naim.

mr. naim is a 61 year old veteran trainer in the saf and i always love listening to his stories while we do our practicals driving around. he has a kidney problem and reports to nkf bedok for dialysis every mon, wed, and fri. maybe it's due to his age, maybe because of his illness, somehow we just share a deep rapport and i can't help but care for him.

passing the difficult tp test in one attempt would assure him of a $500 cash bonus and im glad i managed to do that and not be selfish. im gonna miss him. (:

out of boredom i just read all my previous blog entries. ahhh, the memories. you say that i wrote in my march entry that you're totally out of my life so you're surprised that i manage to develop feelings for you again. true. but if you did follow my blog you would have realized that i do mention you every once in awhile. so what does that mean? would i have lied on this personal space even before reconciling with you just to 'gain' more points? trust me, i wouldn't have done so.

kl's leaving singapore tomorrow for batam for a short getaway. suddenly this idea appeals to me greatly. how i wish to flee from this place.

one really only knows the true value of things after you've lost them. although we sang and hummed this song frequently in the past, i never understood the true meaning of its lyrics. not till tuesday, i was struck with bliss and my heart settled as i realized the affectionate nature of our song. i was so blessed.

i didn't want to create any disruption to your life. neither is it my wish to cause any fuss to your emotions. i just wanted you to be genuinely happy. very, very happy.

but i also worry. i worry that no one can give you true happiness. not that im the only one who can, but im more than willing to try extra hard. when it comes to matters as delicate as this, i trust myself to do the job better.

in 溏心风暴2, 管加公 loved 于素秋 deeply. the feeling was mutual but they just cared for each other quietly, with both parties wondering if their love was one sided. fear held them back, and 管家公 went on to lose the girl when another guy stepped into the picture.

i cried. i cannot let this happen to me. i've always been upright when dealing with matters of the heart. i've never toyed nor played mind games with people. and now it seems, good people really finishes last. (管家公 lost)

must i play hard to get to make myself more attractive? do i need to be a player to avoid getting hurt? i refuse to buy this theory. i shall stand true to what i believe: treat my special one with utmost respect, and to bare my truest self to her; and that is, to protect her from all things bad, and to add joy to her life.

we had two days' worth of outfield this week. pretty lame shit i thought, drivers need to go outfield for what? but it turned out to be pretty exciting, driving those monster tracks under uneven terrains wasn't as easy as it seemed.

and then there's the dreaded camouflaging exercise. it really looked pretty easy; the net is huge (15m by 15m), the tonner is big but smaller than the net so it should be chicken feet feeding the net to cover the truck right? WRONG. nabei we struggled for a good thirty minutes before we managed a good camo.

and i got more than what i bargained for.

i got a persistent, filthy, sore, itchy, lumpy, horrible, disgusting rash that threaten to ooze pus. on the first day it happened, it was still bearable: i just kept slapping the affected areas to ease the itch. that night, it spread and i sought medical advice. that greenhorn doctor gave me calamine lotion. like so wtf. of course it didn't help la, i don't need an mbbs cert to know that. so the following morning, i went to the doc a second time. and they gave me pills. and again it wasn't helpful. that night, i was desperate to go to the hospital. my handsome body was ruined and marked with red ugly spots, can you imagine the helplessness i felt? and that was when they decided to jab me. LIKE THEY COULD DO SO EARLIER RIGHT? aiyo. that jab hurts but it was worth it to see those rash retreat into brown, wimpy spots. losers.

oh it feels so good to bitch. LOL.

ever tried eating crocodile meat?

you're looking at 姜葱 and 宫保 crocodile meat respectively, each priced at $8.50 with nasi at old airport road food centre. not particularly impressive, but unique and different from your everyday nasi lemak dinner. tastes like chicken, as with most exotic meat. i know, eat crocodile meat for a change this christmas! don't everytime ham and turkey. boooring.

this movie's a total flop! more talk than action and really effective in putting me to bed. eeyur.

then we went to marina barrage! wahh singapore damn sat, go build a reservoir in the city. definitely a good place to chill and pat tor. super windy also, guys don't forget to bring your sweaters for the ladies! :D

it's been a wet week! and that spells trouble for our tonners don't come equipped with air conditioners. either we open the window big big as usual and get wet by the incoming rain or we can choose to sweat our asses out which, ultimately makes us equally wet as well. duh.

most of the time i just heck care and open the windows big big la. im a soldier leh! somemore get wet also will still remain handsome so neber mind what right? now if you don't want to be chased out of my blog, you better...

talking about chasing, we've a cleaner being mauled by white tigers in our zoo on thursday. and as i brought my thirsty tonner to shell on friday, i picked up a copy of the new paper and got a little traumatized by what i saw on the cover page. as i read further, i felt sick, shock, and nausea all at the same time. and till now, im still pretty affected by this episode.

for the time being, i don't really fancy the sights of cats. maybe im overreacting but this is one of the things i don't have control over. kinda crazy, isn't it? i just hope the deceased's family is able to cope with the loss of their beloved son, brother, and friend. my sincere condolences.

today is truly a special day. i met up with meiyun after more than two and a half years and enjoyed every moment of it together. we celebrated ws's dad's birthday at crystal jade golden palace, sang at kbox, and talked under the stars at henderson waves! it was an emotional and yet happy affair. pictures!

i realize i seriously need smile coaching lessons. look at what army has done to me! sob. dinner was classy but not filling, and way too overpriced.

room 26! meiyun still remembers what this number means to me. this is the place she showed her vocals off to me. aiyahh must have done alot of trainings prior to this meeting just to impress me! chey. hahaha!

two weeks more and we're going back to bedok camp! damn it! GRRRR.

i've finally finished watching 溏心风暴! :D

wahh its really an excellent drama and its actors, superb. sometimes i wish i can put my hand into the video player to slap the villains in the show! lol. and it has also made me cry... i sobbed like a baby when the good natured daddy passed on amidst the chaos and the many struggles he endured in the family while he was still alive. sigh. but anyhows,,,

i shall move on to 溏心风暴之花好月圆 this week! wahh i tell you, because of this drama series i've inadvertently been promoted to the instructors' hatelist for always hooking my headphones to my ears during lessons.

BUT I CAN'T HELP IT WHEN THE LESSONS ARE SO BORING AND WHEN I KNOW EVERYTHING, RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT?!

alright i shan't be proud. but that unwelcome attention
has also intrigued my coursemates' interests in the show, and now i've three people on the waiting list to borrow the dvd from me. talk about negative peer pressure. lol.

alrights enough about the tv world. this week we upgraded from land rover to three tonners! the

back of our vehicle ensured that no civilian vehicles
dared to play play with us on the road. MWAHA. i've
really had enough of these people cutting aggressively
in front of me while i was driving the land rover. now they know who's the new king of the road. MWAHA. HAHAHA.

ht rented a vios over the weekend to celebrate his legality on the road. he has just passed the driving test with only two points on his first attempt! welcome to the driving club, brother. :D

and being ever confident, he drove us to johor for a feast! and to pump petrol, of course. wahh this person haven't even receive his license card, he can drive us over the causeway liao. SIBEI SAT. lol.

we had dinner at our favourite zhi char joint. yum yum! and then i also dunno how, but we tuu and tuuu and dunno why we only reached home at 4am. and that was when all of us decided to play the pang seh game.

to think i was the one who persuaded everyone to go with me, in the end i was also the first one to surrender. so in the end only charleston went for the walk, while the rest of us, on cw's suggestion, went for the big sleep instead. pai seh leh charleston! :P

jak just came back from perth on tuesday. so of course this week's saturday is reserved for him la! neither was i aware that we're about to have our most expensive meal together as buddies. but boy, was it good!

EH EYES DUN OPEN SO BIG LA. suar ku is it? mwaha. we ate like there's no tomorrow, like revenging for somebody dear like that. lol. but it's nice la. everything was nice, until the bill came.

wow how time flies! ok i cheated a little, the actual tenth year anniversary is on the second of january next year instead. but i needed a reason to justify my extravagant spendings ma, can? but dinner was really good la. mwaha.

next, it was settler's again! lol. although unwilling initially, everyone had a good time making lots of noise at the cafe! thank you for bringing these precious people into my life, lord. hehh. (:

jak got me this from perth! as much as im delighted to receive such a cute boomerang, i still cannot fathom what use has it got for me. nevertheless, thank you jak! although it doesn't fly back when thrown, it's still an ultra cute gift. :D!

the weekend has been good, mostly because of the people. thank you, for brightening up my days. gum sia! i shall not do the girly xoxo thingys but i hereby award each and everyone of you a virtual hug. appreciate it ok! ok i better go pack my stuffs for book in liao, the stupid camp is 1.5 hours away from me. zzz.

happy deepavali to everyone! more importantly, joyous public holiday for singapore! :D

im truly thankful for an extra day for me to catch up with the zzz monster! these days i get less sleep than i did while i was with guards! we're in smart four 95% of the time we are awake, either listening in on lectures or doing practical drivings around eastern parts of singapore (easterners beware of amateur big truck drivers!), there's no chance for us to get any close-eye at all. boo hoo hoo!

but i get to watch 溏心风暴 on my zen player during breaks and some lectures! i already know how to drive, what. :P

okok, so what if this show is so yesteryear? i just finished watching 公主小妹 also what.

GASP.

now that's considered slow, i admit. but you can't fault a mega busy army boy with not being able to observe the latest tv trends for serving the nation wholeheartedly, can you?

this morning, my family depart changi airport for taipei for a one week vacation. yes, home alone for super benson. never mind, i'll go to taipei with guards next year. its ok, i very patient one. WAHHH HOW CAN GO WITHOUT ME?! sad sob zzz.

pray that they have a fabulous time there, and don't forget to bring back taiwan's 道地美食!

ws brought me to bishan gym this week, and we spent three painful hours working out. i hope i can tahan this punishing regime for at least till i cut away the spare tyre plaguing my stomach, a permanent resident since my primary school days! aiyo.

next i met up with the rest at east coast park.

yeah glad to be back. (:

some major updates: im now on course at 1 transport, taking a class 3/4 military driving permit to be the driving slave of my platoon. the six of us were handpicked from our various sergeants and i've still yet to see the effects (if any) of being a saf approved driver. (more sai kangs?) as for now, im enjoying every moment at sembawang camp.

there's an odd ruling at this ulu camp- no exercising allowed. our course warrant especially took time to brief us on this. i quote, "i don't care you guardsmen don't run cannot sleep. you run, I CHARGE YOU."

ladies and gentlemen, introducing your 4th-generation army. o.O

anyway this course will end on the 29th of november where we will return back to bedok for the 'rite of passage', a three-day no-nonsense series of dumb fuck, exceptionally exhausting program for us to earn our precious khaki berets and guards tab. the passing out ceremony is set tentatively on 13th of december.

some grueling times ahead. sigh.

i didn't go to bed after blogging. alright i lied. ws was too hyper and i couldn't ignore a friend who need company, right? :D

so we went to safra mt faber to explore! our virgin tries on the jackpot machine sadly, didn't yield any winnings for us. not fun la, so silly staring at the fruits and numbers. how come those aunties' eyes not pain one meh?

while we were turning out from the carpark, eagle eyed benson spotted some waves in the air! double scope, and he confirmed a wavy bridge some forty stories high! alright, maybe ten stories high. intrigued, the duo decided to investigate.

so this is part of the 8km bridge that nparks spent a few millions on? hmmm abit expensive but definitely lomantic, just not so appropriate for the two charming guys.

ITS MUMMY'S BIRTHDAY!

we took half a trillion photos but all very random, so i shan't waste time to decide how and which one to post up here. just be envious of us, the happy family. :D

the family were happy with red star's dim sums but apparently that's not enough. after some mindless shopping in chinatown and later liang court, we met up with our extended family.

the three aunts six grannys were so delighted to see each other, they chatted the whole night long while i content myself with the glorious food. hmmm. MWAHA.

later i met up with the boys and wasted two and a half hours of my life.

simply put: LUM NUA. how can this movie win death note, all of us wonder. tmd waste my time. GRRR.

as i've touched on earlier, six of us are separated from the guards' platoon and these people missed us so badly they demanded a meetup. and so it happened.

mwaha. thankful for these people. (: but the queue at astons the cathay took us two hours, no joke. we watched in delight as couples left the queue in exasperation. hahaha. :P

i can't remember when was the last time i blogged about sunday. sunday, as far as i can recall, is a day for chores. and im glad i visited the gym today.

not many people know that i've a gym membership, reason being i've always been paying for the subscription in vain after enlisting into army. where got time? today, i found time and whoa, now my abs hurt like fish. sob.

which brings us back to the chore of the chores- book in. zzz. im looking forward to a happening week ahead. vroom vroooom!

its been an enjoyable week at 1 guards. this whole week, we laid our focus on intermediate close combat training (icct) and though its still hot making fighting moves in long four, im thankful that we had an easy re-start to a guardsman's life.

but my throat's so sore from all that shouting. :(

anyhows i've just received my first ever platoon photo in print, just look at all the lan-jiao-bins that im gonna spend with the rest of my soldiering life! :D

today would be our very last night sleeping at artillery institute, as we pack our barang barangs and be prepared to load up the tonners, along with all our stores and mortar tubes, for home sour home to guards' camp tomorrow morning. civilians to avoid expressways sle and tpe during the mad morning rush or be prepared for an even crazier holdup with five huge tonners and four mortars jamming your way. ~~arrrgh i don't wanna go back to bedok camp!~~

to prepare for the grand homecoming, i had a calorie-ful weekend! hurray to a bigger tyre and thicker waist! aiyo.

lunch was at arnold's fried chicken with ol and ah boon after i settled my affairs in the morning. food has improved! or was i starved to begin with? unsure, cos everyone was super hungry when we partook our lunch at 3pm.

we wandered off to suntec city after lunch. walked about unsatisfied, and found desserts at esplanade.

wahh haagen dazs at esplanade has got style man. with their mild victorian decor, we felt right at home the moment we stepped in. service was impeccable but unfortunately we couldn't say the same for their food. ever tried ice cream towers so dry that they cause slight irritation to your throat? yupp, with compliments from haagen dazs esplanade.

ws joined us shortly at suntec. we browsed around abit more and left for pasir ris farmway.

selamat hari raya, happy children's day and a wonderful public holiday to everyone! :D

so glad field camp is over! heh. exercise makan doggie was tiring and it reinstated my thankfulness for i did not sign my life away to be a soldier. not even as an intelligence officer, as i was offered that position while i was still in bmt. really, truly grateful for my far vision. lol.

the next two days in khatib camp would be fussing over maintenance on our muddy stores and equipments, oh yeah they need them badly- our field camp was disrupted for some moments due to a huge thunderstorm, and we had our tonners to thank for staying dry.

i spent most of this short holiday on movies and basically just slacking around. its nice to just laze around sometime too. haha. anyways director benny chan has still not disappoint in his latest movie 'connected', it is no mean feat keeping a worn out soldier awake and i must give him credit for that. a cannot-miss, must-watch action-packed police-story for all movie-buffs. ok i shall cut the hyphens already.

eagle eye was not as good as the thrillers projected it to be. i fell asleep and woke up several times throughout the movie and emerged totally clueless to the plot. to be fair, i was running on less than nine hours of rest for the last three days so it wasn't entirely the movie's fault. but on hindsight, i should have saved that eight bucks lahhh. lol.

it was to cw's house after that refreshing sleep at the theatre and it was at his library that i found this 2002 film. ht felt the movie had a low budget as it was centred on a phone booth throughout and thus, not impressive, but i thought the film was based on an intriguing storyline and its lead actor had some very good acting. so overall the movie was good for me.

i've seriously overspent by a hundred miles for this month. time to keep my debit cards away! and i want to do braces, anyone willing to donate to this needy emergency fund? (:

this week has been the best since i became a soldier six months ago. no lectures, check. no practicals, check. no physical training, check. nights out, correction. nights out daily, check. wahh we've so much free time we didn't know what to do i tell you.

on thursday we went to yishun central to catch the latest blockbuster, 画皮.

strong cast, pretty female leads and a touching love scene at the end, this is one of the better movies i've watched in recent times. i wanna catch 保持通话 soon!

the clique met up again finally and hell, kimberly's already a uni graduate! damn army, im so behind time! booo.

we played the quack game again. this time the game lasted past dinner and the blabberings that followed. it was really good to see these people again. (:

jying was ultra nice to bake a cake for the september babies. really sweet of her. notice the neat chocolate and cheese layers? hmmm, delicious!

WHEEE!! but prawning is still not much fun for me. so off we went for some extreme rounding, with ws joining us at sengkang. gosh it's fun!

surprised to see me blogging on a wednesday night? no, im not on awol (short for 'absence without leave' in army lingo). neither did i take any leaves. yyyup, im on nights out!

YEAHHHH!

in fact, my platoon is on nights out everyday since the start of the week! oh yeah you bet im loving it. MWAHA.

our 120mm mortar course is coming to an end soon and next week would be our field camp, unaptly named 'exercise makan anjing'.

errr, that's exercise eating dog in malay. and a very liberal translation at that.

maybe our course commanders abhor dogs? anyhows, i just can't emphasize the vast dislike i have for field camps. camouflage creams, stinky uniforms, smelly helmets and vests, insects, sweat, the sun, the rain, the soil, the mud, the elements, basically everything! but oh wells, what choice do i have? suck thumb lo.

i've to declare this. too many nights outs is definately not good for me! bo dai bo ji i've already spent close to 50 bucks this three days and we all know how poor national servicemen can be! dammit. this is hindering my progress to my goals! (refer blogpost dated 070908)

but oh, that botak jones feast on monday was oh oh so gooood. `slurps!

i dreamt of you on thursday. of us patching things up and got together again. of the insuppressible joy we experienced just being in each other's company. the envious looks others gave of our genuine love. they are now... just a dream.

most of this weekend has been spent at fairmont singapore, formerly known as raffles the club. thanks to ol, i was given a rare treat of the raffles' hospitality.

in my opinion, this $390/night signature room is a total ripoff. in fact, im skeptical that fairmont is really a 5-star hotel establishment. somehow it just pales in comparison to both four seasons and swissotel the stamford, of which i've very fond memories of.

after a night of wild rounding and good catching up with ol, we found brunch at one of singapore's best duck rice stall.

i got acquainted to this duck house way back when i was a primary six kid. back then, my mum had a problem with me for not returning home after school so she sent me to my sis's hostel just opposite this stall. packing duck rice for lunch became a daily affair, since there really wasn't much food choices at the area.

~fast forward to 10 years later

and now im coming to this place at my own accord. haha. such sweet memories. (:

ol wanted to get some treats for her chihuahua so we popped by vivocity for the pet safari.

ahahaha, i like the rabbit so much!

most of it crap, but some really warmths my heart. like this one...

aloha! this week marks a new beginning for the mortar platoon of 1st battalion singapore guards. we are now temporarily housed in artillery institute at khatib camp and what a joy it is to be staying in here! apart from some panting everytime we retreat back to our sixth storey bunk, everything is sparkling new here! new building, new cupboards, beds, and even toilets with contract cleaners! food also tastes better than that of guards' camp. and the best thing of it all? we book out on fridays. come cheer with me,

while we are soaking in joy with our current living conditions, we received a bad, bad piece of news from our platoon sergeant.

"a parade has been held for the rifle companies of 1 guards, and all of them have received their khaki beret and guards' tab on friday. a separate parade will be organized for support company (which is us) at the end of this year."

that implies we shall suck our thumbs while contenting ourselves with jockey caps for another three months. ~~like a chao recruit~~. sadded.

小姨 organized a bbq-cum-steamboat-get-together at her condominium and sis took the opportunity to bring saige to swim!

waking up early on a lazy sunday morning to run 10km certainly isn't my kind of thing. but with the army, anything goes. my first semi-marathon, also my first time running with so many people. the papers reported that over 70,000 ~~bored people~~ took part in it! o.O

... jumping down from a superpuma at this height, with the chopper making crazily loud sounds and winds threatening to blow you off instead.

that was to imitate the sound of the helicopter, stupid. mwaha. i realize i've an even more wicked sense of humour ever since enlisting into army. opps. oh anyways, i did just that, that jumping, and wow it's quite an experience having your balls shrink; but hey, people pay to do that, while we get paid for that. at 30c an hour though. aiyo, seriously they ought to revise the allowances of servicemen again, at least more for guardsmen! we risk our lives, you know. ha.

today we decided to explore the thieves' market! though within walking distance from my home, this is only my second time shopping over there.

as you can see, they do sell designer goods here. no need to travel to takashimaya for that! and how we've moved on, even the uncles here sell psp and handphones! talk about upgrading.

next, we moved on to sim lim square to kaypo. we left, however, with a couple of burnt pockets.

they've got really good salespeople over at song brothers! be warned, only proceed when absolutely necessary. or suffer the same fate - pocket with holes.

still feeling loaded, we decided to engage in some sports. healthy lifestyle mahh.

we chose pool fusion, as always. bigger burnt spots in our pockets. thank you.

whoa i tell you, her house is super done up la! carpeted floorings, disco ball, lights, and karaoke system, bar counter, an exclusive spot for mahjong and many, many pets. got fish, got turtle, got hamster, dog also have, wah can open restaurant leh! opps.

that means $888. we dine under such background music, where exorbitant prices were set for things that we do not need, or finds it hard to find a need for. you get what i mean la. lol. the opening item was the most ridiculous. it's said that good luck will follow you if you bid successfully for the first item, but its still hardly convincing when two pairs of oranges would cost a cool $1,200. stunning right. next year i want to be the one sponsoring the oranges. mwaha.

again, its been a good week but i really hate to be returning to camp. sigh, another 19 months to go. its a really long winding road ahead. endure, benson, endure!

seems like tv on mobile isn't really too far off in singapore, isn't it? though still at its infancy, tv singals were strong and clarity was there. comes with complimentary starhub espn channel onboard, soccer buffs are really not gonna miss any goal scoring moments. drains the battery rather quickly with tv on though. get ready to embrace this new technology in the next coming months.

upon booking out, the brothers met up finally! objective: delicious supper. solution:

i swear they have one of the best bat kut teh and zhu jiao on this island, even better than your regular balestier bat kut joints! better than that havelock road's too. seriously. but don't try their special claypot though, taste weird like a combination of chinese herbs. eeyur.

the oh-so-good concoction can be found in joo chiat, along the stretch of joo chiat cc. free parking for those who drive, or otherwise hop on to bus 16 which stops conveniently outside the cc.

the boys were obviously not done with catching up after munching and so we spent the rest of the night at east coast mac. nice and cheap ice cream they have! hmmm, yummy.

i was just listening to the radio when i hear the news of a spanish couple giving birth to their 18th child.

GASP.

eighteen?! i can't help but to google about this couple and wow! really, supremely, impressive.

- michelle (the mother, duh) has been pregnant for 135 months of her life.
- they have used 90,000 diapers.
- they have four industrial washers and dryers which launder 200 loads of clothes each month. (wah lau!)
- they have nine vehicles, and a 21-passenger bus for transport. BUT
- their food expenditure is less than US$2,000 a month!
